Summary

This half-day workshop will help delegates to understand:

  • The different types of Neglect
  • How to recognise signs and risk factors associated with neglect
  • Understand risk management and the challenges of balancing risk
  • How to identify protective factors
  • Support and intervention available

Who Should Attend?

This course is suitable for all staff & volunteers who work with or support children, young peopleĀ and families in Brent.

Learning Outcomes

After completing this module, learners will be able to:

  • Be informed of relevant research on neglect
  • Consider the complexity of the definition of neglect
  • Understand how to recognise neglect in relation to child development and /or special needs
  • Make a distinction between indicators and risk/protective factors
  • Recognise the importance of early recognition and intervention
  • Consider the importance of chronologies to help understand the cumulative impact of neglect and to measure the impact of interventions
  • Consider how to assess neglect by planning child-centred interventions and measuring child-centred outcomes
