Summary

Making Safeguarding Personal is the foundation of the statutory adult safeguarding duties within the Care Act 2014 and is an approach that applies to all safeguarding work. This course uses case studies and exercises to explore how to make safeguarding personal in practice in a range of adult safeguarding responses and interventions.This course is aimed at all those who have regular contact with adults at risk of abuse and those involved in responding to safeguarding concerns, including health and social care practitioners and managers and commissioners. It will help you to develop both confidence and competence in making safeguarding interventions and in achieving proportionate and effective outcomes.

 Learning objectives

By the end of this training participants will have an understanding of...  

1.         Understand the principles of Making Safeguarding Personal and the 6 Principles of Adult Safeguarding, including their basis in the Care Act 2014 statutory guidance and in the wider legislative context, including Human Rights Act.

2.         Understand how to apply the principles of Making Safeguarding Personal, demonstrating compliance with the Mental Capacity Act 2005 whilst managing competing requirements of Public Interest and risk to others.

3.         Identify ways to involve adults at risk in safeguarding processes.

4.         Understand how to use Making Safeguarding Personal in a multi-agency context and as part of other interventions and processes including the Serious Incident Process.

5.         Apply Making Safeguarding Personal in the delivery of health and of social care services.
