Detail:

In this multi-agency training we will consider the complexity and causes of resistance and reluctance to engage with professional agencies. By considering the impact of parental lived experience and focusing on a child-centred approach, including the importance of the voice of the child, you will develop understanding and confidence to:

  • Understand and describe what leads some individuals to be reluctant, resistant and hostile towards intervention by agencies;
  • Understand that the safety and welfare of the child or children is paramount and the importance of hearing and recording the voice of the child(ren) at all times;
  • Know how to engage with individuals to lessen the likelihood of resistance or aggression;
  • Recognise signs of disguised compliance, coercive control and other strategies used to deter professionals, and its implications for the child/children and risk assessments;
  • Examine your own and other professional's responses to conflict or hostility and the impact of  unconscious bias and the role of professional curiosity for all practitioners.

Please do your best to attend, with your caamera on, and be willing to take part in discussions and to ask and answer questions. Bringing experiences to the group adds value to multi-agency understanding and collaboration.
