Detail:

Domestic abuse is complex. It can be physical, sexual, psychological, emotional or financial abuse that usually takes place within the home, and is perpetrated by a partner, ex-partner, family member or carer. It can include stalking and harassment, controlling and threatening behaviour, forced marriage, so-called 'honour-based' crimes and female genital mutilation (FGM). It isn’t always overt or obvious and is evident across all demographics and age groups. .

In the vast majority of cases, it's experienced by women and is perpetrated by men. Understanding and working with the perpetrators of domestic abuse is challenging. By the end of this session with the charity, Rise, you will:

  • Know how to make a referral to RISE for a domestic abuse perpetrator
  • Learn how to assess if someone is suitable for a referral
  • Understand how to screen for subtle forms of domestic abuse
  • Enhance your knowledge of the most salient risk factors pertinent to domestic abuse perpetrators
  • Have a greater awareness of the relevance and importance of cultural competence
  • Increased confidence to work with denial and enhancing the motivation of perpetrators to engage with services
  • Learn how to achieve the best outcomes in a multi-agency framework
