Domestic Abuse - the signs, dynamics and the role of professional curiosity

It is reported that 2.1 million people aged 16 years and over experienced domestic abuse in the year ending March 2023. Health and social care professionals will often be the first point of contact, but so can many others. It is therefore essential to understand and implement best practice, multi-agency responses.

Who Should Attend? This course is designed for anyone who works or volunteers with adults and families in Brent and may have come across or suspected domestic abuse. If you haven't, sadly it is likely that you will.

Aim. This multi-agency training one-day virtual workshop will support you to understand the dynamics of domestic abuse and the barriers to disclosure survivors may face, ask questions and hear from other practitioners. Attending this session, you will feel  initiating conversations about domestic abuse using a trauma informed, multi-agency approach.

You will:

• Explore the significance of intervening early
• Understand the importance of identifying high risk factors of domestic abuse which may lead to further harm or even homicide
• Think about your client base and share ideas with colleagues on how to work together and why this matters
• Understand safety plans, how to increase their safety and why leaving is so hard
• Understand the challenges of this complex situation,  and the impact on children when present
