Early Help Assessment (EHA) - a practical what, why, when and how for early support and better outcomes

Who should attend?

This course is for professionals and volunteers who work with or support children, young people and families living in Brent.

What is an Early Help Assessment (EHA)?

The EHA is used as a tool to assess and coordinate multi-agency support for children, young people and their families that need help. The EHA uses the Signs of Safety approach in a holistic way to help ensure that families get the right help, at the right time, and as quickly as possible. The process is voluntary and informed consent is required from the parent/carer before completing an EHA.

The EHA brings together all of the information about children, young people and their families on the same form, so that families do not have to repeat their story to different professionals. Parental consent allows relevant information to be shared between agencies, but families can choose which information they want shared and with which agency.

Learning outcomes:

By the end of the training delegates will....

• know how to complete an Early Help Assessment (EHA)
• be able to understand the sign of safety approach and tools used in the EHA
• to understand the role of the Lead Professional 
• know how to make a referral to the Early Help service

We strongly recommend the use of public transport, with various options available by tube, train or bus.
