Detail:
Aim To better understand the unpaid role of family members and friends caring for and supporting Brent residents to improve both the early identification, reduce isolation, safeguard and provide support and possible respite.
We know that we have a vast number of Carers who are not linked ot any support. This is for all professionals and volunteers as we strive to identify and support both adult and young carers living in Brent. Far too many undertake this role with no support or respite and identifying people is the first step to provide and signpost to support and services, with safeguarding a vital aspect.
Learning Outcomes. By the end of this training participants will:
- Know what is meant by the phrase ‘Unpaid (or Informal) Carer’.
- Know the importance that Unpaid Carers have in providing care for those who need extra support.
- Explore the evidence regarding the physical, emotional, social and economic impact of being a carer.
- Understand the importance of, and your role in, the early identification of unpaid Carers.
- Know what is available in terms of ongoing support for unpaid carers and how you can support Carers to access these specialist services.
- Have a broader understanding of the 2024-27 Brent Carers Strategy.
- Know how to make a referral to the Brent Carers Centre.
Unpaid young and adult carers provide support to someone due to illness, disability, a mental health problem or an addiction. Many people go through life unaware that they are a Carer and may consider themselves to 'just be looking after someone' often without accessing support services and being isolated.
