Some of these arrangements are 'hidden', but ought to be registered with and the suitability considered by the council. Identifying these is vital, as is understanding and providing support for all such arrangements

This multi-agency safeguarding training is for: all those who have contact with children, young people and families in their homes or in any other setting such as education and GP surgeries. Are you sure of the relationship and arrangements of their Carer? How do you know?

You will: use case learning and interactive activities to understand the risks, differences and similarities between Private Fostering and Kinship Care.You will gain confidence in identifying those in these arrangements, understand your legal obligations including the the duty to report and the understand the importance and value of information sharing between agencies.

Objectives: this training will help equip you to safeguard and provide support to those both in, and providing, these arrangements for better outcomes. You will be more aware, confident and able to:

  • Understand the types of Kinship Care arrangements and how these differ from Private Fostering.
  • Identify arrangements which have not been registered with the council.
  • Know how to make a referral.
  • Support and signpost families, the children, and young people.
  • Be confident in your role in keeping children and young people safe in these arrangements and your legal responsibilities.
  • Understand the laws of parental responsibility, and the legal framework.
  • Understand the roles of different agencies and the importance of information sharing.
  • Understand and be able to use a trauma-informed approach.
  • Ensure the voice of the child or young person is heard and recorded and how to ask questions of yourself, and the children, young people and families you meet.
  • Understand appropriate monitoring arrangements and referral pathways to help safeguard those who may be at risk.
  • Understand the impact of unconscious bias and cultural sensitivities.

Brent Civic Centre is accessible by public transport. This is the advisable way to visit as there is there very limited parking both on-site and locally.

To access the training suite, take the escalator or the red lift to Floor 1.

If using escalator - the training suite is located to the right at the top of escalator. 

If using red lift - the training suite is located to the left.

The building is fully accessible.
